I just finished reading "The Middle East Explained." It was written by Richard P. Robison whose incredible insight to the historical, cultural and mindset of the various ethnic factions truly shed intelligent light on the problems faced in the region today. If the American media has made you focus only on the fact that no Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) were ever found in Iraq, then you, like me, missed the boat. Every national political leader should be required to read this book. Current leaders not only have this generation's fate in their hands, but that of future generations as well. When people are cold for lack of refined oil and gas to heat their homes or operate their automobiles because free access to Middle Eastern markets has been usurped by other petroleum hungry countries, politicians beware. Democracies must succeed in the region. I now understand why negotiation without might to back it up is viewed as a weakness by Middle Eastern cultures. I am convinced that terrorists are plotting to kill as many Americans as they can at this very moment. Mr Robison's treatment of the Palestinean / Jewish conflict is unique. I would highly reccommend this book as required reading in the high schools of America.

"The Middle East Explained" is a very easily read book, which is formated in 24 questions, each question making up a chapter. It provided informative and entertaining answers to questions every American needs to know about the middle east. These are critical times in our history and "The Middle East Explained" provides little known facts explaining America's challenge in the comming years. Americans have shouldered a long-term commitment in the region. It was interesting to read how much western culture and heritage has middle eastern roots. Americans have shouldered a long-term commitment in this region and "The Middle East Explained" has enlightened me and helped me understand what every American needs to understand.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It had information I hadn't read elsewhere. I even gave a copy to one of my professors who agreed it was a very informative book!
